Slice 04: Hot New Songs In Your Area

This past Monday, I had a great conversation with a colleague whose music taste I really admire. He told me about how doing his weekly radio show is almost like going to the gym – if he makes time for it, it allows him to “work out” that part of his brain.

As I mentioned in my last post, music discovery is often an intentional process, one that I haven’t been making a ton of space for in my life. I admittedly have been busy listening to my 2014 playlist in anticipation of Just Like Heaven Festival this weekend.

The chat with my friend earlier this week lingered in the back of my mind as I hammered away on emails during this past work week. I’ve done a good job of carving out time for my dog, for my significant other, for sleep, for my family, and even for Fortnite – but where’s the time and space for allowing myself to discover new music?

I set aside time to listen to the new releases of May 2024 this afternoon and was pleasantly surprised to hear so much amazing stuff. What started out as a 10-song playlist of my favorite releases in May (so far) quickly doubled in size, and I could probably stay up all night adding more.

There’s a major blend of genres in this one. Some of it’s chill. Some of it’s jarring. All of them made me feel something. Listen on shuffle for best results.

I also wanted to recommend some of my favorite editorial playlists:

SLICE OF THE WEEK

Thin Crust Pepperoni – Little Caesars

Overall Rating: 8.5/10

Would I recommend this specific pizza to anybody that loves pizza in general? Absolutely not. This pizza tasted more like cheese and pepperoni atop a saltine cracker – or maybe unseasoned cardboard. I’m giving it an 8.5 because it perfectly satisfied my desire to chew on a box like a little rat (it’s best if you don’t ask questions).

I would recommend you skip the new Crazy Puffs if you’re ever finding yourself ordering Little Caesars. They were not very crazy and looked misleadingly cheesy in the photos. They were quite dry and no amount of marinara could save them.

(Little Caesar I’m sorry I love you)
